Michael is highly experienced serving in interim management leadership positions
(CFO, AVP/ Controller, research administration, internal audit) having performed in over fifteen such engagements and provides a wide range of consulting services to higher education and other non-profit institutions as evidenced on our “Clients” page.

 

Prior to establishing Barone & Associates, LLC in 2009, Michael was a Managing Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and Huron Consulting Group. At both firms he was responsible for driving the growth, development and delivery of risk consulting services and broader business advisory services in the higher education and other not-for-profit sectors.

Before entering professional services, Michael was employed at Harvard University for thirteen years, initially as a director of research administration financial services and then as director of internal audit. Previously, he was an assistant Controller at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute after starting his career at Ernst and Whinney.

Michael has been a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is a past president of the Association of College and University Auditors and past member of the Costing Policies Committee of the Council on Government Relations. Michael has also presented at various higher education industry conferences.
