Prior to establishing Barone & Associates, LLC, Michael was a Managing Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and Huron Consulting Group. At both firms he was responsible for driving the growth, development and delivery of internal audit services and broader business advisory services in the higher education and other not-for-profit industries.
Before entering professional services, Michael was employed at Harvard University for thirteen years, initially as a director of research administration financial services and then as director of internal audit. Previously, he was an assistant Controller at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute after starting his career at Ernst and Whinney.
Michael is a Certified Public Accountant. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Institute of Internal Auditors. He is a past president of the Association of College and University Auditors and past member of the Costing Policies Committee of the Council on Government Relations. Michael has also presented at various higher education industry conferences.
